How to Throw a Low Carb St. Patrick’s Day Feast

March 13, 2019

You don’t need the luck of the Irish to enjoy a low carb St. Patrick’s Day feast. No matter what you’re doing to celebrate this popular holiday, I have plenty of low carb tips and recipes that are sure to make it a success.

Corned beef and cabbage is the Irish-American version of the Irish dish, which was bacon and cabbage or lamb. Corned beef is made from brisket, which is a relatively inexpensive cut of meat that becomes meltingly tender and flavorful when it is cooked slowly. Depending on how you prepare it, corned beef and cabbage is also naturally low in carbs. You can kick off your St. Patrick’s Day celebration with these low carb St. Patrick’s Day corned beef recipes.

Of course, there are some St. Patty’s pitfalls that are not low in carbs (Guinness beer, Irish soda bread, shamrock cookies and potatoes, to name a few), but you can bypass some of these temptations with my simple plan:

  •  Plan your pre-party snacks. In other words, make sure you keep up with your regular low carb snacks and meals prior to the party so you can keep your hunger (and cravings) under control.
  • Go easy on the booze. If you can’t celebrate St. Patrick’s Day without a green beer, make sure it’s a low carb green beer.
  • Make the menu. In addition to low carb corned beef recipes, you can throw the perfect St. Patrick’s Day party with these low carb St. Patrick’s Day recipes (they’re easy to make and perfectly portable if you’re bringing a dish to share):

 Spinach-Artichoke Dip

This cheesy dip is always a crowd favorite.

 Dubliner Cheese Tart

Thinly slice this tasty tart, and you have a delicious appetizer than can be served warm or at room temperature.

 Cauliflower Shepherd’s Pie

This traditional St. Patrick’s dish gets a low carb makeover when you substitute cauliflower for mashed potatoes.

 Coconut Lime Mousse

This light and tropical mousse may not be a traditional Irish dessert, but it adds a nice touch of green to your celebration.
